Keep rockin' an' rollin', but keep it clean...!"

BO DIDDLEY LAUNCHES NEW WEBSITE & ONLINE STORE

Bo Diddley, one of the founding fathers of rock & roll and the popularizer of the world-famous "Bo Diddley beat", has announced that he will be launching his new website and online store this coming Thanksgiving. The website, which with typical idiosyncrasy he has named "Bo Bo Diddley's Turnup Root", is located at http://www.turnup-root.com/

"Bo Bo Diddley's Turnup Root" promises to offer its visitors a unique insight into a quite extraordinary man.

With rock & roll now fast gearing itself up in readiness to celebrate its 50th anniversary, it is perhaps fitting that one of the musicians who was there at the very beginning should finally be receiving some of the plaudits that are his due. Rock & roll, rhythm & blues, British Invasion, garage, rock, funk, punk, new wave, hip hop, rap, metal and breakbeat, all have been immeasurably shaped and influenced by the man with the cool-looking trademark oblong-shaped guitars and the black Stetson hats; the one and only Bo Diddley.

"Back in the '50s I had the first ever rap record to hit the charts, a song called "Say Man", states Bo Diddley, "Now I'm all set to release new records for a whole new generation of kids, just like I released records for some of their grandparents before them!"

It has been said that if rock & roll were a pair of underpants, Bo Diddley's songs would be the very elastic that holds them up: "Bo Diddley", "I'm A Man", "Diddley Daddy", "Crackin' Up", "Say Man", "Road Runner", "You Can't Judge A Book By The Cover", "Pretty Thing", "Who Do You Love" and many other classic songs have been recorded over the past half-century in more than a thousand different cover versions by artists ranging from Connie Francis to the Rolling Stones, Buddy Holly to the Doors, Carlos Santana to Sir Paul McCartney. Even best-selling fiction writer and Bo Diddley fan Stephen King couldn't resist the urge to join in the fun a couple of years back, and record his own version of the song "Bo Diddley" in musical homage to his hero.

"I'm gonna show people a whole new side to Bo Diddley. In fact, I think I'm probably gonna shock a few people! I gave the record companies a lot of my material over the years, but I kept the best stuff! I'm currently fixin' to release recordings of me playing classical music, for instance. I also have a brand new song comin' out titled "We Ain't Scared", that I just know is all set to get people talkin'!"

A deservedly early inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, plaudits bestowed upon Bo Diddley in recent years have included Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Rhythm & Blues Foundation and from the Recording Academy, a Pioneer in Entertainment Award from the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters and in May of this year an inaugural Icon Award from the performing rights organization BMI. That award is inscribed with the following few simple words that succinctly validate Bo Diddley's contribution to popular music: "In recognition of your unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers".

"Thanksgiving is an appropriate time for me to be launching my new website and online store", says Bo Diddley. "It was at Thanksgiving in the year of 1955 that I made my first ever TV appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show singing my big hit song "Bo Diddley".

In conjunction with his new website, Bo Diddley is currently also shaping up to release CDs of both brand new recordings as well as a series of exciting limited edition collectors' CDs of previously unreleased archive material recorded in his various home studios during the past 40 years. Right now, visitors to his website can shop online at Bo Diddley's Online Store powered by CafePress.com and purchase a range of cool-looking and exclusive limited edition items including T-shirts, sweatshirts, BBQ aprons and vehicle license plate frames that will make perfect gifts for the forthcoming holiday season.

Hey BO DIDDLEY fans!

Rock & roll legend BO DIDDLEY and the band Munkeez Strikin' Matchiz have recently recorded a brand new song titled "We Ain't Scared".

Recorded at the Skylab Recording Studios in Gainesville, FL, the track is one of three produced at a recent 10 hour recording session by BO DIDDLEY's long-time producer Scott Free and features BO DIDDLEY on lead vocals, Bodetta on keyboards and vocals, Jozon Mezak on bass and vocals, Shadow on drums and vocals, Jo C on percussion and vocals and Scott "Skyntyte" Free on guitar and vocals.

"We Ain't Scared" was written to capture the feelings of patriotism that BO DIDDLEY's fans have expressed to him at each of his US concert performances since the terrorist attacks of September 11th 2001.

To listen to an exclusive 2 minute audio sample of "We Ain't Scared" and to read the transcript of a recent interview held with BO DIDDLEY on the occasion of the broadcast debut of the song, you are invited to visit the Hot News page of the BO DIDDLEY-The Originator website at http://members.tripod.com/~Originator_2/hotnews.html

When you have listened to the audio sample, please e-mail us with any thoughts and comments that you might have about the song, and also if you are perhaps interested in purchasing a CD of the complete song or you wish to make any further enquiries about the track.

Thank you very much. We look forward to hearing from you.

Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry and Little Richard are to be the first 3 recipients of the Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) Icon Award, to be presented to them at the BMI 50th Annual Pop Awards dinner at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles, CA on Tuesday May 14th 2002.

The performing rights organization is honoring them with this prestigious new award in recognition of their many contributions to contemporary music. Bo Diddley's debut single "Bo Diddley"/"I'm A Man" (Checker 814) hitting the rhythm & blues singles chart in May 1955, Chuck Berry's "Maybellene" (Chess 1604) in August 1955 and Little Richard's "Tutti-Frutti" (Specialty 561) in January 1956.

Now in his early 70s, one of the founding fathers of rock music and the popularizer of the world-famous "Bo Diddley beat", singer and guitarist Bo Diddley is still very much active in the recording studio and in the clubs and the concert halls around the world. He performed a rousing version of his classic song "Who Do You Love" with George Thorogood & The Destroyers in front of a TV audience of millions at the Live Aid Concert in Philadelphia in 1985. A couple of years later he was deservedly an early inductee into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. In 1996 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Rhythm 'n' Blues Foundation and in 1998 received another Lifetime Achievement Award this time from The Recording Academy at that year's annual Grammy Awards Ceremony. More recently, yet further honors were justifiably awarded to him when he was inducted into The Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame, The North Florida Music Association Hall of Fame and on March 8th of this year he was awarded the prestigious Pioneer In Entertainment Award by The National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters (NABOB).

Warmest congratulations to Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry and Little Richard on the awarding of these richly-deserved honors.

One of the founding fathers of rock music and the popularizer of the world-famous "Bo Diddley beat", singer and guitarist Bo Diddley is to be honored with the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters' (NABOB) prestigious Pioneer in Entertainment Award at the 18th Annual NABOB Communications Awards Dinner due to be held in Washington, DC on Friday March 8th 2002.

Bo Diddley's innovative pounding and hypnotic, Latin-tinged beat, his vast array of electric custom-built guitars, his use of reverb, tremelo and distortion to make his guitars talk, mumble and roar, his use of female musicians, his wild stage shows, and his on-record and on-stage rapping pre-date all others.

Born Ellas Bates in 1928 near the town of McComb, Mississippi, and later adopting the name Ellas McDaniel, Bo Diddley moved with his adopted family to the south side of Chicago in the mid-1930s. Initially studying the violin before taking up the guitar, it was around this time that he acquired the nickname "Bo Diddley" from his fellow pupils at the Foster Vocational High School in Chicago.

The newly-named Bo Diddley had long been fascinated by the rhythms that he heard coming from the sanctified churches. A frustrated drummer, he tried to translate the sounds that he heard into his own style. Gradually he began to duplicate what he did with his violin bow by rapidly flicking his pick across his guitar strings. He continued to practice the guitar through his early teens. Shortly before leaving school he formed his first group, a trio named The Hipsters, (later known as The Langley Avenue Jive Cats, after the Chicago street where he lived). In 1950, his still fondly-remembered maracas player Jerome Green joined the group, followed a year later by harmonica player Billy "Boy" Arnold.

After more than a decade of playing on street corners and in clubs around Chicago, Bo Diddley finally got the chance to cut a demo of 2 songs that he had written; "Uncle John" and "I'm A Man". After various rejections from local record labels, in the spring of 1955 he took the recordings to brothers Leonard and Phil Chess, the owners of Chess Records, and at their suggestion he changed the title and the lyrics of "Uncle John" to more reflect his own unique personality.

The 2 songs were re-recorded on March 2nd 1955, and released as a double A-side disc "Bo Diddley"/"I'm A Man" on the Chess Records subsidiary label Checker Records. It went straight to the top of the rhythm 'n' blues charts, establishing Bo Diddley as one of the most exciting and original new talents in American music.

With musical influences of his own ranging from Louis Jordan to John Lee Hooker, and from Nat "King" Cole to Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley was now set to help shape and define the sound and presentation of popular music for all time. From Elvis Presley to George Thorogood, from The Rolling Stones to ZZ Top, from The Doors to The Clash, from Buddy Holly to Prince, and from The Everly Brothers to Run DMC, all acknowledged the unique influences of Bo Diddley upon their own different styles of music.

In 1957 the first of several female musicians, Peggy Jones (aka Lady Bo), joined his group on electric guitar, followed in the early-1960s by Norma-Jean Wofford (aka Duchess) and by Cornelia Redmond (aka Cookie) in 1965. His current bass player, Debby Hastings began playing in his band in the mid-1980s and his current keyboards player (and manager), Margo Lewis, in the mid-1990s.

A string of hit records such as "Diddley Daddy", "I'm Sorry", "Crackin' Up", "Say Man", "Say Man, Back Again", "Road Runner", "You Can't Judge A Book By The Cover" and "Ooh Baby" during the 1950s and 1960s followed by several memorable appearances in movies such as "Sweet Toronto", "Let The Good Times Roll", "Trading Places" and "Hail! Hail! Rock & Roll" throughout the 1970s and 1980s, securing his place at the very heart of rock & roll and rhythm & blues music.

Now in his early 70s, Bo Diddley is still very much active in the recording studio and in the clubs and the concert halls around the world. He performed a rousing version of his classic song "Who Do You Love" with George Thorogood & The Destroyers in front of a TV audience of millions at the Live Aid Concert in Philadelphia in 1985. NABOB is a non-profit corporation that represents the interests of African-American owners of radio and TV stations across the USA. The annual NABOB awards dinners honor persons who have made significant contributions to the broadcasting and entertainment industries and who have furthered the interests of the African-American community.

In the words of one of his many famous eponymous songs, "Bo Diddley Put The Rock in Rock 'n' Roll", and remember..... Bo Knows!

DEAR, BO, My name is Jim Glazier, from 4308 42 AVE. #20 Rock MTN.. House Alberta, Canada . And I need the help of someone with great influence over people and the resources to convince people they can protect there property. I am not trying to get a hand out, but perhaps some kind of business venture where we both can make money. I have been interested in vehicle security since 1997. I get sick when I hear of peoples property stolen , damaged , and even lives lost from such a preventable problem as car theft. I have looked at many vehicle security devices and there weakness, and endeavored to build a device that is easy to install and also user friendly, and very difficult to remove. I have built prototypes, and have used one on my vehicle for three years even in big cities, and always felt comfortable that my car would always be there where I parked it. I also installed one on an old truck in an auto wreaker and it took three big men 4min. 56 seconds to remove it, only by braking the floorboard because of too ridged a base. This has since been redesigned to be flexible. It was encouraging to see one person could not remove it. It is loose enough installed, that it cannot be cut with a hacksaw, since it is made with good strong steel. The lock cannot be frozen because it is incased with steel and a small air space. These men ! tried with hammers and feet to remove it and only exhausted themselves. Since joy rides and theft of vehicles for the purpose of committing a crime are the main reasons for general auto theft, I know this will be a very good and secure type of vehicle theft deterrent. I have a U.S. patent and applied for an international patent with the help of a company in Ireland, who have done up for me a confidential research report, on North America, and Europe and are at this time trying to find manufactures all around the world that would be interested in building this device that I call "Brake Lock. There is some simple electronics that serve as a trade mark, as well as takes care of the brake light problem. I recently have had interest from England and Illinois and hope to get a positive response from them. Auto theft is a huge problem everywhere. I know it will make a difference. But it will only make a difference if people will use it. If I could give you more information that might convince you, perhaps you may be interested in being a part of this venture. .P lease, if you want more information or have questions please get in touch with me at my E-Mail address ( cadillacjim @msn.com) Thank you, I look forward to hearing from you . In common with many other people, BO DIDDLEY and his family have been deeply upset by the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington DC and Pennsylvania on Tuesday September 11th 2001, and the subsequent crisis that has ensued both in America and around the world in the weeks since the attacks took place.

In light of these tragedies, BO DIDDLEY has asked that his fans, radio deejays and other people working in the media should play and listen closely once more to the lyrics to a song that he recorded in 1989 titled "Wake Up America", a track that can be be found on his "Breakin' Through The BS" CD released on Triple X Records 51017-2.

In the past 20 years or so, BO DIDDLEY has recorded and released a number of songs that reflect not only his love of the American nation and and its people but also his great concerns for the country's future stability and well-being. The songs "Ain't It Good To Be Free" and "Gotta Be A Change" are both good examples of his impassioned vocal concerns for his nation and its people. Both of these tracks are currently available on the CD "The Mighty Bo Diddley" released on Triple X Records 51161-2.

We hope that during this time of national crisis that BO DIDDLEY's fans, together with the nation's deejays and other people working in the media across America, will perhaps take the time to listen and to reacquaint themselves once again with the inspirational messages contained in some of these important, but perhaps lesser-played, songs that have been written and recorded by BO DIDDLEY.

Congratulations to BO DIDDLEY, one of the founding fathers of rock & roll! His 1955 recording of his song "Bo Diddley" has recently been named as one of the RIAA/NEA "Songs of The Century", and will be included as part of a new American music history education project to be introduced to 10,000 US fifth-grade schoolteachers later in 2001.
